Simpler in that people worked 50 weeks a year plus a half day on Saturday and then headed off to stand on a stony beach in a suit for their 'holiday'.

Life was so much simpler.
I'm actually contemplating getting shot of my smart phone and going oldskool with a 3310.
Retro, me.

I'm sure I read that in early photos people didn't smile due to the long exposure times required for photos, meaning that they would have to sit there grinning for an unnaturally long period of time.

(click on the play looking button to make the picture clear. Its a pdf because we just have the scans, the pictures are at home.)
Picture of my great great grandparents who had a store in Bethnal Green.
The back of the picture just says "South Coast" so if anybody might recognise the building, I would be grateful.

Judging by the sights I see on the beaches of Florida every year, they could do with reintroducing the ban.

I have a photo of My Great Grandfather and Grandmother and their children on holiday.
My Grandfather looks about 2 so that would put it at 1900.
They are in Kent Hops picking. Obviously they couldnt afford not to work while away so they took the kids off for a week and got them buggers working too.
Ah, them were they days.

It was illegal in New York for men to go topless until 1930, and I believe it was typical of US states.
Not sure there was a specific law against it in the UK, but there was probably social pressure against it.

Why would you want to go to the beach dressed head to toe?
And why is it in really old photos everyone seems to be wearing 3-4 layers?
Wouldn't they have been really hot?

It always amazes me that no ever smiles when you see old photos, was life really that depressing then?
